Roadmaps for Sunday
From Loen to Geiranger with airtime at Mt Dalsnibba.
Loen - Stryn
The drive from Loen to the nice village of Stryn offers nice fjord views to the left. Just before entering the village, you pass a couple of rather nice historical wooden hotels on the right. If you didn’t fill up the tank yesterday, you should do so now. Esso has 98 octane fuel from one pump only.
Stryn - Hjelle - strynefjell - djupvasshytta
From Stryn we drive through the lush valley towards the Strynefjellet mountain pass. But before starting the climb, we make a small sidestep to the left and drive carefully through a very nice place named Hjelle. We do not stop here - unless you have to - to take a photo. We need the time to reach our lunch. But before that, Strynefjell and Djupvasshytta awaits.
DJUPVASSHYTTA - DALSNIBBA - FLYDALSJUVET - GEIRANGER
After our short stop at Djupvasshytta, we start the climb to the very peak of Dalsnibba 1500 meters above the Geiranger Fjord. Temperatures expected to creep down to around 2-3 celcius on the top. We aim for clear views - meaning that Geiranger will be visible down by the fjord below us. We don’t have much time, so please follow when the Alfa Romeo GTV starts and heads for the road down back to Djupvasshytta. From there, we continue down towards Geiranger. Don’t be surprised if you see a photographer balancing on the roadside somewhere before we stop at Flydalsjuvet viewpoint - before heading for the Hotel Union for lunch.
Someone will direct you where to park at the hotel.
