A fall fling

A group of friends gathered for the 11th Gentlemen Drivers Weekend in Loen and Geiranger mid September 2020. You might say that this was a test of some of our routes and of the event hotel, Alexandra Loen - but really, it wasn’t. It was more about finally being able to enjoy friendship in a relaxed setting, spending some quality time behind the wheel of our classics, enjoying the fall colours bursting in the mountain sides and say to hell with corona.

So what´s the gentlemen drivers weekend like in north-western norway?

There’s plenty of evidence in the stories on this site that this part of Norway has some of the best driving roads in Europe. Three SM´s attended this year. Other GT cars we might mention 2 Fiat 130 Coupes, an Alfa Romeo Montreal, a Lotus Esprit, a Maserati Merak, a couple of Alfa GTV´s, a Ferrari Testarossa, a Ferrari 400i, a DMC DeLorean, a few Porsche 911s from different years and editions, a 928 and some other interesting cars too.

Roads perfect for a grand tour

To drive through the clouds from Geiranger up to Djupvasshytta and further to Dalsnibbba is just magical. Note that modern Norway now generally means perfect, lavish road conditions, and dramatically shortened distances helped by extensive tunnel building programmes. Luckily one can still go for the numerous alternative classic paths with those wonderful winding roads. The proof of a good match: At the very winding mountain road of Trollstigen a cat-like purr can be heard from the engine compartment.”

Dalsnibba mountain peak 1500 meters above the Geiranger fjord is an experience in it self. The road up there should open just in time for the SMNOR21 event. Don’t miss it.

The Norwegian Citroën SM Club organizes one major event per year, sometimes jointly with other Citroën clubs, sometimes alone. These meetings bring the members around the Southern part of Norway together, visiting some very interesting places, and some scenic areas and roads. The club was founded at the meeting in Geiranger in 2004, and it is a pleasure for us, to invite you to this spectacular part of Norway – the birthplace for the CSMKN!

We hope to see you in September!
